A WILD, drunken birthday party included a sex toy demonstration and punch-up which ended with a victim waking next day in a vacant lot with a broken jaw, a court has heard.

Geelong Magistrate's Court was told the victim's attacker, Luke Shelley, attended Geelong Hospital Accident and Emergency after the fight where he was found to have a blood alcohol reading of .280 per cent.

Shelley, 32, of Oak Ct, Lara pleaded guilty in Geelong Magistrates' Court yesterday to a charge of recklessly causing serious injury.

The offending also breached a Community Based Order and suspended jail sentence Shelley received in 2009 over a drink-driving collision.

Police Prosecutor, Leading Senior Constable David Vanderpol said that, on June 26, last year Shelley attended a 30th birthday party in Iris St, Norlane.

"As the party progressed a woman gave a demonstration of sex toys and women's lingerie while people continued drinking," Sen-Constable Vanderpol said.

"At the completion of the demonstration the majority of the party went to the back patio where Shelley overhead another male ridiculing a younger man."

The prosecutor said a drunken Shelley confronted the victim and a heated discussion took place.

"Shelley pushed the victim away and pushed him to the face," Sen-Constable Vanderpol said. "The two men then began punching each other and wrestled to the ground where Shelley punched the victim to the jaw.

"The victim woke up next day in a vacant lot in Plume St with a sore jaw and large gash to his forearm.

"He had no memory of how he came by the gash."

Dominic Care, for Shelley, said that all the party-goers had been drinking heavily that night and clearly the consumption of alcohol had affected his client's ability to rationally assess a situation.

Magistrate Anne McGarvie convicted Shelley, restored a two-month suspended jail sentence and sentenced him to a further two months jail, with one month to be served concurrently and the other suspended for 12 months.
